Online
Josh Grossberg

We cant say we were sorry to see this article on Kanye West from Yahoo News...

The Bonnaroo boobirds were out in full force for Kanye West this weekend.

The Grammy winner walked onto the festival stage nearly two hours past his scheduled 2:45 a.m. performance time Sunday morning and was greated by bleary-eyed fans' chorus of boos and chants of "Kanye sucks."
West was originally set to kick things off at 8:15 p.m., but because he wanted to make the most of his Glow-in-the-Dark Tour's lighting show, the hip-hopster's camp asked to push back the gig to 2:45 a.m. following Pearl Jam's show.

However, the Seattle grunge rockers' gig lasted an hour longer than planned, with Eddie Vedder and bandmates not wrapping until 1:15 a.m. Then there was an extended break while Pearl Jam's roadies disassembled the band's stage and West's crew set up his own elaborate backdrop, a glow-in-the-dark spaceship along with undulating black platform and raised video screen.

Organizers posted a message via Jumbotron that the "Can't Tell Me Nothing" rapper wouldn't be taking the stage until 3:15 a.m., then 3:30. When 4:15 a.m. rolled around and still no West, the antsy crowd began hurling glow sticks at the stage and screaming anti-West sentiments. Bonnaroo officials didn't help the matter, not informing festivalgoers why the changeover was taking so long.
West finally made his entrace at 4:30 a.m., but by then, many exhausted attendees had had enough and returned to their tents.
Apparently, they didn't miss too much.
Judging by online reviews, West's performance didn't stand out from the 150 acts performing at the four-day musical campout. In fact, it was a yawner.
"He was two hours late, cut his show short, didn't once acknowlegde the crowd that waited two hours on an already late show, not even a wave goodbye...I'm no longer a Kanye fan, huge disappointment," one fan wrote at the music blog Stereogum.com.
"It's not the stage hands' fault; that stage was set up for well over an hour before Kanye decided to grace us with his presence," wrote another attendee on VillageVoice.com. "The next time he holds that finger up and proclaims himself as #1, I hope someone tells him what he can do with that finger."
Per festival reports, West failed to even acknowledge his tardiness.
The bad vibes carried over to Sunday's daytime slate, when during his set pedal-steel guitar virtuoso Robert Randolph groused about West's behavior, prompting fans to reprise the "Kanye sucks" chant.
There was no immediate comment from the West camp.

Source: http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/61281870

New Queens of the Stone Age Video "3's & 7's"

The American rock group Queens of the Stone Age has released the their video for "3's & 7's" off their fifth studio effort Era Vulgaris. It's a must see if you like any of the following: scantily clad women, violence, blood, pirates, bitch slappin', treasure hunting and/or car chases. Yes, it's that insanely random. It seems to follow a gang of diversely attractive girls around through a chase for gold, a gang beat-down, and some good ol' fashion girl-on-girl action!

What you won't find in the video is any member of QOTSA. The video was produced by the makers of the uber-popular game "Rockband". Those familiar with the game will find similarities including the game's opening scene with the out of control car. It's a witty move by QOTSA and the Rockband peeps. From the Queens perspective; you tie in your video to a hugely successful game in which you are already a part of, you save yourself the 3 days making a video, and you continue the cooky ways that have made you popular in the QOTSA fan circles.

Rock n' Roll,
RVL

What it Takes to be a Professional Musician

What’ happenin kids,

We’re going to do things a little different in this blog. This will be your step by step guide to becoming a full time musician in Vegas. Even though the bulk of this info will be based here in Vegas, most of it will transfer universally. We’re going to learn everything from networking to dealing with asshole management. No fairytale bullshit here. This is what you need to know before you decide leave your family, quit you job and move hundreds of miles away from home to become a rockstar. The road is long and arduous and I’m gonna help you pack.

Lets start off with the most basic. The market here is tough and saturated. If you’re having trouble finding gigs at home, you’re going to have an even harder time here. You have to be on top of your game and hungry as hell. You come out here with mediocre talent and this city will chew you up and laugh in your face. You’ll find yourself workin a job and dodging calls from back home quicker than you can ask "Would you like fries with that?". So again, I can’t stress enough, do not come out here with weak game.

So you’ve brushed up on your scales, tightened your fills and its time to head out. What the hell should you bring with you? Your instrument, accessories, and two suitcases. The less you bring the easier it is to move around, and believe me, you’ll be moving around a lot. Get real comfortable on a couch before you get here, because that my friends will be your new best friend from day one. The easier it is for you to pick up and move, the longer you’ll last here. It may take weeks, months or years to lock into a solid gig where you can afford your own place, and being able to bounce around gives you a longer shelf life. Why don’t I just get a job in the meantime? It takes away from your focus. You didn’t make sacrifices to come out here a work a job. You came out here to become a musician. If you ever forget that, you will not make it. You’ll tell yourself, "I’ll just work this job to pay my bills and once I find a steady gig I’ll quit". Doesn’t work that way kids. Either you want to play music for a living, or you want to play music for a hobby. There is no in between.

I think you all have some things to think about. Lets start with that and get back into it next week.

Jeremy Cornwell

"The Road Ahead is a Journey
The Road Ahead is Long
But All the Struggle is worth it
When You Hear the Crowd Sing Your Song"

American Idol David Cook Is Winner

Well we have our winner...Dave Cook is your Season 7 American Idol winner and I don't mean to brag...but I called it. As you'll find, I'm usually right. If by chance I'm not, I'll pretend to be anyway.

After one of the most entertaining AI episodes ever including performances by ZZ Top and One Republic, Cook walks away with the season 7 victory and a soon-to-be forthcoming album. We'll have to wait to see what direction his career takes and if it's more Clay Aikenish or Chris Daughteryish but I'm hoping for the latter.

Daughtery was the first "rocker" to make a splash in pop American music after being an Idol contestant and went on to put out the fastest selling rock album ever. You can bet that 19 Entertainment, Simon Cowell and the powers that be will take Cook down a similar road. With American Idol ratings still growing and setting records, it's instant popularity for these artists before they even see a recording studio. So congrats to Cook and we look forward to seeing him in the future.

Rock n' Roll,

RVL

Archuleta VS. Cook

Well it's come down to the two Davids and it's sure to be a close one! Problem is, it shouldn't be. Send Archuleta off to Broadway and leave pop/rock/radio to guys like Cook. Don't get me wrong, I think Archuleta's voice is strong, clean and even interesting at times. However, when compared to Cook's, it's boring in comparison. Not to mention, watching Archuleta on stage feels like an awkward, forced performance while Cook seems at home and even thrives on the pressure.

We all know by now that we'll see plenty of both of them in the near future. From the monster that is American Idol, we've seen the good and bad of what can be made of minuscule talent and maximum marketing. They'll give them both record deals, buy songs for them to sing, and saturate the masses. It's the way of the present in pop music. So may the best man (or boy, in Archuleta's case) win and we look forward to the overproduced pop they will soon release.

Rock n' Roll,
RVL

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.drmusicblog.com/2008/05/archuleta-vs-cook.html' title='Archuleta VS. The term "expert" is used loosely in this instance but I will promise to bring you anything from recommendations, reviews, news, tour info, music pop culture and technical info. I will, as you'll notice, tend to gear towards the rock/indie scene as it is my forte, if you will. But as a musician and music lover, I appreciate all genres and will discuss most if not all at some point. Some of the articles you will see regularly will include "Drmusicblog.com's Album of the Month", "New Gear", and "New Artist Watch".

I grew up playing in bands, solo projects, dive bars, drum lines, frat houses, churches, and garages. In my travels I have gained knowledge that I hope to share with you. My hope is that this will help you experience the joys of music in whatever aspect you decide.

Rock n' Roll,

RVL

Coming Soon!

We are currently making final tweaks to Dr Music Blog.
